Screenrecording with AIR 2.0 article on ADC

With the official release of Adobe AIR and Flash Player 10.1 my article about screenrecording
with AIR 2.0 was also released yesterday at the Adobe Developer Connection. Check it out here.
It shows you how to use the new NativeProcess class with VLC and Ffmpeg to create a simple screenrecording tool.

  1. Hi Ben,

Great article. I have a question though. Could you possible stream that video recording as a p2p share. Maybe using Stratus or some FMS streaming technique.

  2. vlc.exe doesn’t recognize the arguments passed to it!

“The command options couldn’t be loaded, check that they are valid”

  3. Hi,
I have just gone through your example about the screen recording. I have 2 questions and it would be very nice if you could help me out.

    1. how can I capture a webcam instead of the screen. Have tried it with VLC qtcapture:// – well didnt work

    2. When I run the VideoSoundMerge I get this one:
Error #3214: NativeProcessStartupInfo.executable does not specify a valid executable file.
It seems it cannot resolve the file ffmep.c properly ?? What am I doing wrong.

    thx for help
    Wolf

  4. I am a rookie but want to record just the sounds from a site into a format that can be used with protools such as MP3. Can you tell me how I would use this software to do it?

    Thank you.
    Janis

  5. i love your stuff…..i’m still trying to work it proporly…..but keep up the good work!…thank you so much!

  6. Hi Benjamin,

i saw your wonderful example on the screenrecorder using vlc as native process in air. I am having issue where –rc-fake-tty argument throw and error and if i change it i am not able to stop the recording, force quit will damage the output file.
    any comments?

    regards

  7. Are you still available for Contract | Freelance work? If so what are your rates?

I read your article about screen recording. I wanted to know how complicated you think it would be to include a PHP | Apache or other embedded web server. My goal is to build an AIR application that can: 1. Handle Server Side Scripting (ASP, PHP, ROR) either one is fine, but there are some things that are a lot easier to build with PHP than JSON HTML5. Also need access to complex printing and pdf generation.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts, and if you are available to consult or develop. At a minimum i would love to hire someone that knows RIA’s to help plan the project.

    Regards

    Frank Basti

  8. Do you know if iOS SDK doesn’t provide direct Text-To-Speech. In other words, i have built a SDK app and the voice accessibilty stops the app working i seriously need some help on this.
